Nudge Command Help

I created an alignment using the station and elevations of footer steps for a retaining wall. I used the same station for the vertical steps of the blocks. I have 2 stations that are the same with different elevations. I then copied the alignment to a different layer and used the convert to linestring command. I then tried using the nudge command to bump the vertical faces of the linestring. When selecting “Move selected nodes” it is not allowing me to bump the line so that the elevations are not creating a vertical step in the line. What I am doing wrong? I have used this command before with lines i created from cross sections and it worked perfectly.
