Can I (easily) view/isolate a small piece of a long road job in 3D view?

I transitioned from Terramodel, where I was able to select a small portion of a job and view only that area in 3D.

I find myself longing for that ability in TBC; this becomes even more desired when trying to view pieces of a long roadway.

When I’m viewing the entire surface it’s much harder to zoom in and pan around a specific area of the road to investigate, especially when it’s a very long, densified and highly vertically exaggerated roadway.

I’m sure I could just create a surface boundary around the area that I want to view…but that would seem like an unnecessary and time-consuming step to achieve what I want (not to mention it would mess with other surface boundaries already in place).

My question is twofold:

  1. Is there an easier way to isolate a small portion of a long road job in the 3D view?
  2. If not; could Rockpile create a command that could achieve this?

Works great! Thanks Nelson!

This is what the limit box command does exactly - it will set a 3D box, you can push pull all of the sides, move and rotate the limit box, swich it on and off as needed.

Give it a whirl and see how you like it.

It was developed for working with Point acliuds but it works in any data - i dont believe that it is tied to a higher end version of TBC - i can check when I get back to US tomorrow.

Let me know if you cannot use the command when you try it out

Something I only missed with while using point cloud. So, question. Does the limit box help when you zoom in and it not zoom out? This issue bugs me when trying to zoom in to on potion of the model and then it zooms away from the model.

Sounds like your scroll wheel is reversed:
