I’m having to create some plan and profile sheets for a project I’m working on, and TBC’s native tools have been a bit of a pain to work with. I’ve been trying to use Smart Plot instead, but I can only get it to show me the “Plan” portion and can’t seem to get a profile to display.
I also don’t see anywhere in Smart Plot to select an alignment to generate the profile from. Am I missing something obvious, or is the profile portion of Smart Plot incomplete at the moment?
Any help or guidance would be appreciated!
To create a Profile drawing you need an Alignment in the Plan View and then if you want to show surtface profiles along the alignment you have to use the Create Surface Profile command for each surface so that it slices a profile along the alignment for you.
Then you can open the profile view for the alignment - use right click on the alignment and selectv New Profile View.
In the Profile View you can annotate and draw text etc using Smart Label for example to annotate yourt drawing as needed.
To create a Profile using Smart Plot, you work in this viewe and it will create you the Dynaview Frames along the profile and lay them out on Sheets.
What you cannot do yet in Smart Plot is create a Plan and Profile for the same alignment with matching stations, you can create Profiles only or Plans only.
If you split the Plan Sheet 50/50 vertically then you can place your plans in the top half, and then you would have to copy the Profiles off the sheets they are on to the plan sheets using Copy to Sheet command to get this to somewhat work - I am sure that that will be a pain also
We plan to add sections and Plan / Profiles to Smart Plot in its next round of development coming up here in the latter part of the year.
What issues are you having with the TBC Plan and Profile, maybe we can assist you with that for nmow at least.

I can’t believe I missed that this whole time you can use Smart Plot to capture the Profile View screen! This is going to be a huge time saver for some of our utility planning.
I’m playing around with it now. Is there a way to get it to show the grid, line markings, and slopes? Those would be great features to have in a future update.
The TBC native tools are good, and your videos have been extremely helpful in getting them sorted out. I was just really hopeful that Smart Plot would take what can be a tedious process and turn it into something more streamlined and user friendly, like everything else RPS puts out.
Looking forward to seeing some possible updates to Smart Plot in the future. It has already been a huge help for making quick exhibits for the field much more efficiently!
