Edit Sheet Sets - Profile and Cross Section - Manual Drafting

Is there a way to manually draft on cross sections and profile sheets without running the risk of these additions getting wiped out when you rebuild sheets? I tried adding objects to the profile view on an alignment and couldn’t get them to show in the profile view.

I know you can use items such as reference lines and symbols but in some cases I would like to be able to more accurately draft a pipe, manhole, structure, footing and various other features and give more detail. Also using text to call out certain objects would be useful.

I think this is a limitation of drafting at this time but if anyone has any good tricks or work arounds I am interested.

You can draw in the Profile View (of an alignment but not in the Profile Viewer of a Linestring) and what you draw there is uable in a Dynaview connected to a Sheet output - that is controlled by View Filters.

When labeling in Profile View, Station is Easting and Elevation is Northing if you are using Smart Text - not logical I know but the views of TBC all have X and Y values and in the Profile View Station is X and Elevation is Y which actually map to Easting and Northing not Station and Elevation as you might expect …

@alan.sharp, We are encountering the same issue where our information is wiped from profile box in our Sheet View when we rebuild sheets.

Dimensions created in the alignment window stay.
Annotations seem to have to be created in the sheet view, then are removed if we make an adjustment to the model.

Are we missing a step?
Are we not layering or view filtering our project correctly?
Is there a video/post that you could recommend to steer us in the right direction?

Cheers,
James

You can annotate in the Profile View, then whatever is created there is generated in the Sheet View via the Dynaview that you create on the Sheet View using a Dynaview Frame drawn in the Profile View. The View Filter applied to the Dynaview controls what is / is not visible in the Sheet View.

Typically you will lay out Profile Drawings on a “Custom Sheet” rather than a Plan Grid type sheet (when a Sheet Set is created you choose what type of layout the Sheet Set will have (Custom, Plan Grid, Sections, Plan and Profile etc.)

When you rebuild a Sheet (that typically relates to Plan Grid or Plan and Profile or Cross Section Sheets - not to Custom Sheet types) - the old content is blown away and it starts over, so yes - any annotation you have done in the Sheet will get eliminated and you are starting over.

When you work Custom Sheets, you can place dynaviews (many individual dynaviews vs a Dynaview collection), on a single sheet - that can include Plan Views, Profile Views etc. Once they are placed, you can annotate them however annotation cannot be dynamically linked to the objects - that can only happen in the source views.

One comment about profiles is that the profile View is just a Plan View used to display profiles of alignments. The coordinates of the Profile view are still Easting (Station) and Northing (Elevation), so if you want to use Smart Text to label elevations of the profile, you need to use the Smart Text for Northing not Elevation as would seem more obvious, and for Stations, you use Easting rather than Station - then they work just fine.

I would do all my annotations in the Profile View and then Dynaview it to the Custom Sheet for any final labeling and markup before printing.

The video at this link shows some profile annotations like pond fills, water levels, berm elevations etc. that I think are relevant to what you are doing James.

Hope that this helps
