Earthworks Polygons
Command Licensing and Default Menu Location

Command History

Command Description
Converts closed lines into shaded polygons that can be delivered to the Trimble Earthworks Machine Control System, to provide shaded color rendering of the design surface that highlights areas of different material, or depths of adjustment during earthworks or grading operations for the machine operator.

Command Interface Description
The Earthworks Polygons command dialog looks as follows
Settings
Transparency
Enter a value or slide the slider bar to the desired transparency for the fills of the created polygons e.g. 50%
Delete source lines checkbox
Check the checkbox if you wish to delete the source lines that you select after they have been converted into shaded polygons
Close source lines checkbox
Check the checkbox if you wish to set the “Closed” property on the selected source lines if it is not set currently to Yes.
Polygons layer
Choose the option that you wish to use for the layers on which the polygons will be created. The options are
- Use source line layer - places the polygons on the same layer as the source lines
- Use selected layer - select the layer on which you wish to place the polygons that get created. Click the [+] key to create a new layer and or layer group using the New Layer command. Click or right click the filter button to apply a layer filter to the list of layers presented.
Polygons Color
Choose the option that you wish to use for the colors of the polygons that will be created. The options are
- Use source line color - takes the color of the source lines and uses that for the polygon line and polygon fill.
- Use selected color - uses the selected color for the polygon linework and the polygon fills.
Lines
Select the closed lines that you wish to convert to polygons. The lines can be closed polylines (2D or 3D), closed linestrings, boundaries of all types, rectangles and circles. Note that circles have to be converted to linestrings before being selectable in this command.
Apply
Click the Apply button or the Ener key to execute the process and start a new selection process.
Switch command
Click the Switch cmd button and select the Close or Close All option to close the command. If you wish to switch to another command that is already running, select it from the list of running commands.
Press the ESC key to access the Switch cmd function. In this situation, the running commands list will appear next to the current cursor location.
Header bar commands
The following commands are available from the Header bar of the Earthworks Polygons command. If the command is already running, these buttons also act as a toggle command switch.
