Alignment Editor

Is it possible to modify a horizontal alignment with grips?

why? That would be very tricky to get the location you want. I have not seen or heard of this. RPS does have the edit by EXCEL/spreadsheets. I would go that route.

Francisco,

I ended up creating a new alignment.

I was working on a ditch project where the plans did a poor job of defining a usable alignment. I used the PDF plans to create a preliminary “best guess” alignment, then went to the field and surveyed the actual ditch location.

Once I had the field data, my goal was to shift the preliminary alignment so it followed the centerline of the existing ditch. Rather than continuing to modify the original alignment, I found it easier to create a new alignment based on the surveyed ditch data.

Dont forget to use the Optimize linestring !!!

You could always use a linestring using tangents and side slope command. I usually will start with this when I’m designing anything then move to corridors when I’m comfortable with the alignment and preliminary design.

If you’re designing the road, grips would be ideal. Snap them to fixed points or fine-tune it to specific coordinate/angles later if required.

Use the smart draw command using straights and arcs to get the line as you want it In 2D - grip edit rhat line to adjust its geometry - if you use Tangent Tangent arcs then it is easy to manipulate with grips. Once you have it as you want use Quick Alignment to convert the line into a HAL. Now cut a surface profile along the alignment using create surface profile and then draw in a VAl frame using polyline command - then edit the VAL using thr VAL editor to add VCs into the frame and then grip edit to get rhat as you need it.

Now that you have a HAl VAL you can do the rest with Corridor or sideslope or multi offset line and or slope designer.
