"Smart PDF" for sorting and hiding plan sheets

It is not uncommon for us to have a single TBC project with one calibration that covers an entire industrial site. On one of our current sites we have no less than 7 projects of varying sizes at various stages right now, which means at least 7 different sets of plan sheets to dig through in the view filter manager. It would be sweet to be able to group pdf sheets by project and hide by group to get them out of the way when working on a different project. This could also be used for grouping by sheet content or discipline when working with larger projects. I don’t know if this would work best separate from PDF Manager or a as complete overhaul of PDF Manager.

This is what I do just for PDF viewing. I start a new TBC project and import all my PDF. Then I use that PDF project to import into other drafting projects as a REFERENCE FILE. You would want to mark a FILTER for each type of plan sheet. the command

Does TBC allow circular references so that you can georeference against the latest linework in the linework vce without it living natively in the vce? Any other reference file pitfalls to be aware of? The last time I experimented with reference files it seemed to need some refinement….

Why don’t you just make a different view filter for each project? I tend to just copy my filter and change the name to say project 1, then if you open the advanced view filter settings for your project 1 view filter there is a check box for include newly created layers and surfaces if you uncheck that. new things will not just be turned on by default in the separate view filters as you import/create new layers/surfaces.

I’m told that Rockpile is working on a tool that will group georeferenced sheets similar to the surface grouping in Smart Model. Can’t wait to see it!
