PDF Manager - Alignment Based Project Sheet Management

In the video below we show you how to use the new PDF Manager command for TBC to manage your PDF work process for Site Takeoff and Site Modeling processes.

Key Benefits

  • Uses Bookmarks and Sheet Names automatically
  • Can add Bookmarks (Page Collections) and Sheet Names manually
  • Full PDF Review capability - no need to use Bluebeam or Acrobat in the workflow
  • Can associate any number of PDF files with the project
  • Georeference process has more options - scale, rotate, position, alignment, multipoint, fixed scale, no scale and more
  • Can georeference multiple extracts in separate locations from a single sheet
  • Georeference process allows for Plan and or Profile drawing elements
  • Vector snaps available in all modes of sheet placement
  • Vector snaps can be used with CAD and COGO snaps for increased precision
  • Rectangle, Polygon and Alignment Polygon clipping boundaries created as a part of the process
  • Images AND extracted linework are automatically cropped to the image boundaries for perfect edge matching and significantly increased speed
  • Image boundaries are named for easy reference of the PDF image to the correct area of the jobsite - ideal on large numbers of sheets. Sheets are also named as you define them so are fully under your control.
  • Multipoint and Alignment Multipoint methods of sheet placement provide error checking and residual analysis prior t committing the registration of the sheets.
  • Alignment Verification overlay provided as a check before committing the registration of alignment sheets
  • Data Extraction is cropped automatically to precisely edge matched sheets - this eliminates the largest bottleneck in the current TBC process for Takeoff
  • Data extraction uses PDF layers if available along with colors of layers or colors can be substituted as needed.
  • Selective data extraction - can extract solid lines, dashed lines, PDF Fills and Text as options.
  • Output layers can be name prefixed and are grouped by data type into Layer Groups for easy review and management.
  • Lines extracted are color coded by type and use shades of Green (Dashed Lines) shades of Red (Solid lines), Cyan (Fills) and text is colored by size so you can easily find elevation text etc if needed.
  • Can extract images from PDF pages and place in Plan View quickly and easily.
  • Entire project can be re referenced to a new location when you win the bid. Can use all of the Georeference methods to re reference all of the sheets and all digital data extracted, imported, manually drawn or keyed in, in a single step.

Now, to have a add to this new great command. To be able to have a custom plot size sheet for large alignment base projects.

Have watched both PDF Manager videos. MIND BLOWN!!! I have just spent months working with hundreds of basically shit PDF’s. More than once I said to myself, “I am never doing this again”. Now, here I am looking forward to doing PDF’s this way. LOL.

Awesome work folks.

Best Regards,

Marshall

I finally got a highway job to test this out on and I’m going to second what @Marshall said, Brav-Freaking-O. This is a huge time saver for huge highway projects. I’m going to try and use this for all my projects from now on.

Glad you like it

We need to add a single or two point mode for finding the center of the tick marks rather than right click middle of 2 points - point one point 2 - atab which will change this to simply point 1 point 2 station saving a number of clicks and elimination of the Tab which i always forget to do.

Otherwise i think it flows really well and is pretty efficient - if you have any other feedback we will be working on Rev 2 shortly so we can address any issues in the next 30 days.

I will be adding some RPS Settings that will.allpw you to set Display Style and transparency settings and default layer for the image boundaries and defualt layer for image extraction etc.

If you have other feedback please let me know.

Yeah, I was looking for the settings to change boundaries names/colors.

It would be nice to be able to have a Sta/Offset when the alignment is selected for other misc sheets. I run into that a lot, unless there is another way that I’m not seeing. I know I can just multi point, but then that brings back to my old way of right click Offset>offset line>Sta Offset

Big shoutout to the team at Rockpile!
I recently received a project that requires importing over 350 PDFs. Using the old process, this would have taken countless hours of tedious, mind-numbing work. Thanks to this tool, I’ll save days of effort!

Thank you again for developing such incredibly helpful tools!
