What is RPS Smart Suite?

The RPS Command Library is available at two levels, collectively known as RPS Smart Suite

  1. RPS Smart Data Prep - For Data Prep, 3D Modeling, Field Operations, Producing drawing deliverables, reports and outputs. Includes commands like PDF Manager, CAD Cleanup, Smart Edit, Smart Draw, Smart Elevate, Smart Model, Smart Plot, Volumes Manager, Multi Offset Line, Crop Crossing and more.
  2. RPS Smart Takeoff - Includes RPS Smart Data Prep and adds 2D / 3D Takeoff through work process commands like Smart Feature, Smart Takeoff and Smart Profile. This also includes Cloud Services, Smart Pane and the soon to be released Smart Scene.

An RPS Smart Suite Tool has some unique traits when compared to traditional TBC commands

  • All Smart Suite commands have Smart Switch - this provides the ability to rapidly switch between running commands. You can also press ESC on the keyboard to pop up the Smart Switch list of commands right on your cursor. You can also click any command icon in the header bar of a Smart Suite command to switch to or launch the command.
  • All Smart Suite commands have integrated Hot Keys. The Hot Keys provide quick access to important functions or modes of the running command e.g. N to start a new loop / line, WASD to Pan the graphics window, Q or E to rotate the graphics window, SHIFT M to open the pop up menu, Z or C to increment or decrement a value e.g. while elevating contours, Shift X to pop up an input dialog right on the cursor, U to Lock / Unlock a command and more.
  • All Smart Suite commands are set up on the RPS Navigate radial menu system for quick access directly on the cursor, multifunction commands like Smart Draw, Smart Edit, Smart Elevate can be executed in a specific mode when executed.
  • All Smart Suite commands have a common set of Header Bar commands that also includes custom commands that are context related to the running command, giving you quick access to related commands while executing a specific task.
  • Ability to easily create New Layers and Layer Groups in a Layer Select function in a command. The New Layer control also integrates TBC Takeoff functionality for Categorization of the Layers and assignment of Surface Boundary or Site Improvement boundary properties as well as the selection and assignment of specific Site Improvements at the time of layer creation.
  • Filter controls on Layer Lists, allowing you to create your own filters or use the standard TBC Takeoff category filters when selecting layers. You can also enter a free form filter as well, reducing the layer names presented to a manageable list.
  • Show Direction arrows can be shown on lines when a Left / Right direction or direction of increasing station is required for execution of the command.
  • Can be configured to work from TBC Menus, RPS Navigate Radial Menu on your cursor, or via command shortcuts.
  • Smart Suite commands integrate all key functions into a single step process command like Smart Draw (for drawing objects), Smart Edit (for editing objects), Smart Elevate (for Elevating Objects), Smart Select (for selecting objects) - allowing you to "live” in a command for extended periods of time to execute all of your drawing or editing or elevating needs.
  • Smart Suite is boiling the mass of TBC commands down to key process steps like PDF Management, CAD Cleanup, Drawing, Editing, Elevating, Selecting … and while these are still discrete step commands, with Smart Switch capability, this allows you to switch commands extremely easily and quickly while working. Our goal is to reduce commands and integrate processes tighter and tighter to deliver productivity gains.
  • All Smart Suite Tools expand standard TBC command capabilities, allowing you more dedicated methods to execute - simple commands like Break, Join, Trim, Extend, Fillet, Edit Lines, Fix Surface Flags all provide dedicated tools and processes that allow you to get the job done faster and easier with fewer clicks and mouse movements.
  • All Smart Suite Tools, where appropriate have an information pane that provides feedback and visual display of results of a process, so you can check what you are doing as you execute each step.
  • The more complex Smart Suite commands also have a Simple Mode providing new users with command functionality similar to the TBC basic functions, but with full access to the Advanced features when needed.

With each RPS Command Library update, the Smart Suite Tools are our primary focus. Be assured if there is a need we will take care of it in the appropriate tool. We are continuously looking at usability, work process, speed, productivity, effectiveness, mouse clicks and mouse moves to create a smoother faster solution for our users.

Looking forward, you can expect fewer but bigger, smarter and more integrated tools and work processes rather than more and more tools that have a single function or purpose. You can expect to see the entire workflow for Data Prep and Takeoff boiled down into key work process steps, but with the ability to switch quickly between those steps as needed.
