When no objects are selected when you do CTRL + F on the keyboard, the line marking manager command executes and the dialog below will be displayed, providing you with a single user interface to all of the TBC functionality relating to Line Markings.

The Line Marking Manager command dialog looks as follows

Line marking settings:

You can use the following checkboxes to enable the line markings that you want displayed. Line markings are mutually exclusive with the show large deflections markings that display a marking on line nodes that have a line angle >160 degrees.

Line markings are used during the data prep and takeoff processes to display the elevations of nodes and VPIs on lines as the lines are elevated, this assists you to ensure that all elevations are assigned correctly.

All Checkbox:

Displays / Hides all of the line marking types below

Line End Points checkbox:

Displays a line marking at the start (solid circle) and end of a line (hollow circle)

Segment End Points checkbox:

Displays a line marking (dot / point) at the end of every segment of a line

VPIs checkbox:

Displays a line marking at every VPI location (triangle) along the line

VPI Labels checkbox:

Display:

There are two types of line marking available. The line markings described above, and the large deflection line markings. The two types are mutually exclusive and can be selected here.

Line Markings

Displays the line markings selected in the section above.

Large Deflections

Displays a line marking on any line node where the line angle at the node exceeds 160 degrees. This can be used to find double backs on selected lines to troubleshoot line issues. Typically, double backs can be created when lines are incorrectly joined, or are sourced in the CAD system that generated the CAD data originally and are usually hard to identify without this tool.

Label Settings

The label settings are controlled by the Support - Options command - Line Markings Color and Object labels controls. The current settings are displayed here. The Edit Settings button provides quick access to the Options dialog

Line Markings

Line markings can be applied to all lines or just a selection of lines. When you have a large number of lines in a project, displaying line markings on all lines will slow down the graphics performance of TBC and in addition will clutter the screen significantly with line marking text. In this scenario, you should select only a few lines that you are working on and enable line markings on the selected lines only. This improves graphics performance and reduces clutter on screen.

All lines radio button

This will enable line markings on all visible lines of the project when you select this option and click the Apply button.

Selected lines radio button

This will enable line markings on selected visible lines only when you select this option and click the apply button. Note that if the command is not open and you have CTRL F enabled as the shortcut for this command, when you select lines on screen and then use the CTRL F shortcut, the line markings will be enabled for the selected lines without opening the command dialog.

Select Lines

When the Selected radio button above is enabled, you can select lines here and then click Apply to display line markings for the selected lines only.

Show Radio button

When the Show radio button is enabled, line markings will be displayed on All or Selected lines. This is the same as the Toggle button at the base of the Graphics area being enabled (Yellow).

Hide Radio button

When the Hide radio button is enabled, line markings will not be displayed on All or Selected lines. This is the same as the Toggle button at the base of the Graphics area being disabled (Grey).
