Dynamic Links Inside of a Model

Good morning community,

I have recently been working on some challenging site design projects that require two (or more) independent corridor designs but require some degree of a dynamic link between the two models to design efficiently. Though i don’t have a specific model or pictures to share, the best example i can think of is design of (1) a roadway (independent corridor, alignment, profile, and template) and (2) a shared-use path corridor (independent corridor, alignment, profile, and templates) that generally runs parallel to the roadway but may independently shift horizontally or vertically from the roadway but still needs reference to a specific roadway elevation tie (e.g. a tie to the back of curb in the roadway).

From what i can tell, there does not appear to be a way to maintain a dynamic link between a line string and a corridor in the base software. I am curious if anyone has any interesting ways that they have managed to work around this?

I need a line string (or alignment, or different creative solution) that dynamically links the the roadway corridor (let’s say at top back of curb), that i can reference in the shared use path corridor. I am looking for a solution that will dynamically update when I change the roadway corridor (change profile or other modification that may raise or lower grade).

Rule out exploding the corridor for strings as they are static after exploding. I note that when i reference the roadway corridor FG surface, it shows the surface break codes. Is there any way to reference these? Any ideas or possible workarounds?

In the recent versions of TBC (2023 and 2024), there is a property on a Corridor Surface that allows you to show the linework for the Corridor in plan and 3D View. Those lines are Dynamically updated as the corridor changes and do not get recreated with different object references so they are consistent. You can associate a Line generated by one corridor as a Reference Line in a second corridor and use it to construct elements of the second road. Update Road 1 and Road 2 will change to suit.

Its amazing how you can miss the smallest changes in updates. Brilliant as always sir, thanks Alan. This setting is a game changer!
