  • The command is located on the Data Prep macros menu ribbon
  • The command is located in the Modify menu group

Command Description

Computes points along a selected 3D line using a table of variable slope distances as the divisor. A good tool for rapidly creating building grid layouts.

Command Interface Description

The Divide by Slope Distance command dialog looks as follows

Point Info:

The command will generate points at the slope distance or horizontal distance intervals that you specify in tabular form against a selected source line e.g. a building grid line. If the line is horizontal then slope distance = horizontal distance.

Start Point ID:
Enter the point number that you wish to use for the first point that is generated, subsequent points will be numbered in sequence thereafter. You can use point IDs like A1 or B1 if you want different point numbering for an X Axis or Y axis of a building for example.

Layer:
Select the layer on which you wish to place the created points. This control has been updated to use the RPS New Layer control which allows you to create multiple layers, layer groups, and assign Takeoff layer categorization, takeoff boundary properties and assign default site improvements for the objects to be created on the layer to be created.

In this case the data to be created is points, the points could be mapped to an object type like “Column” to count the number of columns for a takeoff. The Column site improvement would be defined using the MSI manager in TBC and would be a count type object. Each point created would then be a column count.

Define intervals
On clicking the Define intervals button, a spreadsheet style editor will open. Enter the distances that you wish to create along the line. Note that the distances entered are the spacing between the points, not the distance from the origin of the line i.e. values 0, 20, 60, 100 would create points at a slope distance of 0, 20, 80, 180 from the origin end of the reference line selected.

Reference Line:
Select the baseline (polyline, linestring or alignment) along which you wish to compute the slope distances to create the division points. The points will be created on clicking a reference line. You can then click the Define intervals button again to change the divisors for a second line. You can change the values and select the same line again if required e.g. to change the point numbering system for the points being created.

Apply
When you tap apply, the selected line will be divided by the slope distance tale values and the command will ready itself for another selection set and repeat process execution. If you do not want to make a second selection and repeat the process tap Close to finish the process.

Close
Closes the command without further execution.
