Command Licensing and Default Menu Location

  • The Adjust Area command is part of the RPS Tool Shed Toolbox
  • The command is located on the Tool Shed macros menu ribbon
  • The command is located in the Subdivision menu group

Command Description

This computes the accurate placement for a line that creates a boundary area equal to a specified input. Use this command to divide pavement areas up into predefined daily production areas, or create lots of a defined size between a selection of at least three source lines e.g. an end and two edge of pavement lines.

Command Interface Description

The Adjust Area command dialog looks as follows

Video Demonstration

The following video shows how to utilize the Adjust Area command

Name:
This dialog box allows the user to input the desired name for the created line or boundary.

Layer:
This dialog box allows the user to define which layer the created line or boundary will be drawn on.

Create Polygon instead of line:
This toggle allows the user to create a boundary polygon instead of a single line.

Area:
This dialog box allows the user to define the desired area to subdivide the selected boundary with either a line or polygon, depending on the users current setting for the Create polygon instead of line toggle. The drop menu following the Area dialog box allow the user to define the units specified in the Area dialog box.

Boundary lines:
This dialog box allows the user to define the desired boundary lines that will be subdivided by the user’s defined area. The “Options” button will give the user quick access to advanced selection tools.

Reference line:
This dialog box allows the user to define the reference line that will be used to create the area sub-dividing line or polygon. This reference line also makes the sub dividing line perpendicular to the reference line. So when the tool is used on irregular shapes, the user should select a reference line that they wish to use to create a perpendicular.

Approximate location:
This dialog box allows the user to define an approximate location along the reference line that the user believes the sub-dividing line should be created. The tool will then look along the reference line to find an appropriate location for the sub-division, which results in the user’s defined area.

Results:
This window shows the user the area calculations that the tool is generating and at which distance along the reference line the area was calculated.

Command Tips

The command Tips pane shows you how to access Help for the command (this web page). You can minimize the Command Tips pane using the orange arrow in the top left corner of the command tips pane.

Header Commands

  • RPS Help
  • RPS Settings
  • Takeoff Lines
  • Smart Edit
  • Adjust Linestring Elevation
  • Create Polygon
  • Track Region Outline
  • Label Polygons
  • Create Polygon Label Table
  • Leader Lines
  • Compute Lot Setback

Apply
When you tap apply, the area at the approximate location defined by the user is calculated, the tool will then scan along the reference line to find the appropriate location for the user’s defined area. Then the tool will create the sub-dividing line or polygon, and the command will ready itself for another selection set and repeat process execution. If you do not want to make a second selection and repeat the process tap Close to finish the process.
