Join us in St. Augustine, Florida, this coming March 1st through 3rd, 2022 for the next PUG Event!

Power User Groups (PUGs) are Training Events for Trimble Business Center Software Power Users and aspiring Power users. These events are for experienced TBC users, designed to promote your skills and knowledge to an elite working level of the software and its capabilities. We will cover advanced setup and configuration processes as well as mainstream and advanced techniques to solve real world problems for Data Prep and Takeoff for Site, Utility and Highways projects.

All attendees should have working knowledge of TBC prior to attending the class. For those that are at the beginning of their journey in Trimble Business Center, we offer a variety of TBC fundamentals classes via our web training programs. These are readily available at our website at RPS Training Offerings. You can use these RPS Training programs as a base, prior to PUG attendance to kick start your skills & knowledge so that you can be ready for the technical level of the event.

RPS / SITECH Hosted Happy Hour from 5:45 to 6:45 on March 1st & 2nd.

Event will use large screens at the front of the room and each session will be broadcast over GoToTraining to monitors on all desks in the room.


Day 1 - Site Takeoff

A stepthrough guide to Takeoffs - includes running reports, creating CF Map drawings, & generating Site Improvement plans. Both ditization & PDF vector workflows will be covered.

Day 2 - Site Data Prep

Day 2’s primary focus will be on Site Data Prep from a CAD file. The day will include exploration of new features of TBC, such as Reference Files and how to use them in a Site Data Prep context. The following associated topics will also be discussed:

  1. How to QA a model
  2. Modeling from call outs vs modeling from first principles / design intent
  3. How to determine & check design intent
  4. Key Workflow Steps
  5. How and when to vary workflow steps
  6. Which method(s) to use in modeling? This is a popular question today as model elements can be created in a number of ways. Users need to determine which methods to use, and not use, in different situations.
    a) Elevating lines from callouts and contours


a) Elevating lines using vertical design
b) Elevating lines using Slope Designer
c) Elevating lines using SideSlope
d) Elevating lines using Corridor
e) Elevating lines using Offset Line
f) Elevating lines using multi-offset line (coming shortly)
g) Offset Slope or Slope Slope to create elevated lines
h) Common Mistakes in modeling surfaces
i) How to address surface errors and surface flags
j) How to model tricky elements of a surface

Day 3 - Corridor & Composite Modeling

An advanced level look at corridor/composite modeling. The focus points will cover:

  • How to model finished grade and subgrade surfaces
  • How to bring a corridor model together from component parts to build a complete model for volumetric analysis or for 3D Machine Control (Earthworks).
  1. Modeling approaches and departures from bridges
  2. Modeling frontage roads and turn arounds
  3. Modeling ramps and gores
  4. Modeling walls
  5. Using sections to QA / check a model
  6. Superelevations vs slope tables

The class will also introduce you to Rockpile Solutions commands, templates, menus, & more. Several new features and functions will be highlighted!

Additional Information

We will be using the latest version of TBC available at the time of the training for the event. All users should have the latest version installed prior to arriving in St. Augustine.

Training Data will be handed out at the start of the training event. It will also be available for download prior to the start of the event from the web.

All users should have the latest Windows updates, latest graphics card updates, Latest System Firmware and Bios and Drivers installed on their Laptop. TBC should be installed prior to start of training. If you require our assistance with installation we prefer to do that over the web the week prior to the training, especially if your IT staff need to be involved in the installation process. Training will provide external screens - 1 between 2. All attendees should have their own computer.
